Comparisons Measured Evapotranspiration of Sugarcane from Large a N D Small Lysimeters
نویسنده
چکیده
Evapotranspiration (E,) was estimated for plant, first ratoon and second ratoon crops in a sugarcane field by means of the water balance in a large plastic-lined lysimeter (405 m2) and three small weighed lysimeters (each 3,71 m2). For the first 230 days of the plant crop of the experiment the mean daily estimates of E , from the large and small lysimeters were 4,14 mm and 4,16 mm respectively. This good agreement was not maintained during the final 80 days of the experiment, when the sugarcane in the large lysimeter was lodged. The consumptive use of water by the crop immediately after lodging was apparently reduced to an extent which could be of practical significance in commercial production. The plant crop results were confirmed by the first and second ratoon data, although the agreement between large and small lysimeters deteriorated progressively. The productivity per unit of water (tons cane per hectare per 100 mm of E,) remained fairly constant throughout the experiment, but, if Class A pan evaporation is taken as a guide to the yield potential in different crops, then it appears that the yield of sugarcane declined in successive ratoons.

Abstract The class A pan method has been one of the most popular methods due to its simplicity, relatively low cost, and producing daily evapotranspiration estimates. Because of the large area occupied by a class A pan, alternative methods have been sought to estimate ETo inside greenhouses. With the objective of evaluating the performance of evaporation pan in estimating the water consumption...
متن کاملRobust Estimates of Evapotranspiration for Sugarcane
In both Australia and Swaziland large areas of sugarcane rely on irrigation to produce a viable crop or to improve rainfed productivity. Matching water supply to crop demand is essential for productivity and sustainability in any irrigation scheme. Historically Class-A pan evaporation was used as a basis for determining sugarcane water demand or evapotranspiration (ETc). ETc is now frequently o...

Field water balance measurements using monolithic lysimeters were used in validating the Cupid-DPE model for predicting water loss partitioning during sprinkler irrigation from a moving lateral system fitted with impact sprinklers and spray nozzles. The model combines equations governing water droplet evaporation and droplet ballistics with a comprehensive plant-environment energy balance model...
متن کاملThe effect of crop residue layers on evapotranspiration, growth and yield of irrigated sugarcane† FC Olivier* and A Singels
A layer of harvest residues from the previous crop can reduce wasteful evaporation from the soil surface and thereby increase the efficiency of use of limited water resources for agricultural production. The practice of harvesting sugarcane green and leaving crop residues in the field, as opposed to burning the residue, has been re-adopted in many sugarcane industries worldwide. However, a bett...

Abstract Knowing crop evapotranspiration at any time is very important in management of irrigation systems for greenhouse. Changes in evapotranspiration during the crop growth period are described by crop coefficient (Kc), which is defined as the ratio between crop evapotranspiration and reference evapotranspiration. This study was conducted to determine the evapotranspiration of cucumber, tom...
